Liverpool FC News: FSG wag delivers EMPHATIC message as Arne Slot suspended
Here are all of the Liverpool news headlines you need to know for December 14.
Andy Robertson gets sent off against Fulham
Liverpool’s left-back issues have been widely acknowledged this season, but they were laid bare for all to see in this afternoon’s 2-2 draw with Fulham.
Andy Robertson firstly didn’t track Andreas Pereira for the Cottagers’ opener, as a ball from Antonee Robinson was dispatched calmly by the Brazilian.
Robertson was then subsequently sent off in the 18th minute, again not seeing Harry Wilson in his periphery, wildly swinging to clear a through ball and hacking Wilson down with Fulham through on goal.
Due to the nature of the challenge, Robertson will be given a one-game ban. However, the FA rules enable red card suspensions to be carried over to domestic cup competitions, so while he will miss the Reds Southampton (A) clash on Wednesday in the EFL Cup, he will be available for Liverpool's Premier League visit to Tottenham on December 22.
John Henry's wife weighs in after Fulham ref row
Liverpool didn't quite get the result they wanted on Saturday afternoon against Fulham.
From the beginning, they were up against the odds with Andy Robertson picking up an injury and then getting himself sent off as Fulham took the lead.
But a valiant performance by a ten-man Liverpool meant they could salvage at least one point from the game.
Nonetheless, the two draws in a row in the league will be frustrating for many supporters and everyone involved with the club, including John Henry's wife.
Who replaces Arne Slot as Liverpool boss suspended?
Liverpool will be without Arne Slot for their next game against Southampton.
After Andy Robertson picked up a red card and earned himself a one-match suspension, Slot followed suit with a suspension of his own.
The Liverpool head coach was booked for complaining about a foul made on Curtis Jones which means he will now also receive a one-match touchline ban.
That means against Southampton in the League Cup it will be Slot's assistant taking charge of the Reds? But just who is the assistant manager of Liverpool?
Jota rescues Liverpool on injury return
After being sidelined for a few months, Jota was finally declared fit to be in Arne Slot's squad for the Fulham game.
And after 70 minutes of frustration against the visitors, Slot gave Jota his first run out since October against Chelsea.
Just six minutes into his return, the Portuguese striker was able to get himself on the scoresheet to give Liverpool a valuable point to take home with them in what was an enthralling contest, where the Reds had to battle with adversity from the off.
Following Darwin Nunez's struggles in front of goal, it will be a sigh of relief for Liverpool to see a goal come from one of their strikers.
Liverpool's best left-back may actually be on loan
Liverpool have a left-back problem and it needs to be addressed immediately.
It is one of the few weaknesses in Arne Slot's side, and it is continuing to hinder the team.
While Kostas Tsimikas remains sidelined with an injury that has hampered him for a number of weeks, Andy Robertson has had to fill in despite finding himself in a disastrous run of form. Today against Fulham, it cost Liverpool, big time.
As such, recruitment is top of the agenda, although Liverpool may already have the answer to their problem, they just don't know it yet.
Special Liverpool wonderkid may be even better than Rio Ngumoha
Liverpool's exciting academy keeps producing better and better players and there's another special talent worth keeping an eye on.
Much has been made of the mercurial talent of Rio Ngumoha. The youngster has been sensational since arriving at the club's academy and even embarrassing first team players in training.
However, Liverpool are blessed to have even more than just one exciting talent. In fact, there is another player who looks very special and who could have an even higher potential than Ngumoha or at least be on the same par as the former Chelsea winger.
In turn, he is making a strong case to earn a first-team promotion soon.
Liverpool defender earns huge promotion days after joining from Man City
Liverpool have invested heavily in their academy talent over the last few years.
The club is already feeling the fruits of that work in the senior team with the likes of Harvey Elliott, Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha breaking through.
There are many others who the club acquired from club rivals in England who are also starting to make their mark including the likes of Amara Nallo and Kaide Gordon.
Undoubtedly, the biggest transfer coup so far has been landing Ngumoha from Chelsea. However, the club's recent surprise acquisition from Man City could top that.
