The focus on Liverpool continues to intensify as they prepare for crucial contract negotiations with three of their star players.

On the field, the Reds have enjoyed a stellar start to the season, securing three wins from three matches without conceding a single goal, being the only club in Europe to do so. Their impressive form was capped off before the international break with a victory at Old Trafford.

Mohamed Salah was central to the triumph. While his one goal and two assists earned him widespread praise, it was his post-match comments that truly sparked discussion.

Phil Thompson challenges Salah's position

With the spotlight firmly on him, Salah revealed that Liverpool have yet to offer him a new contract. His candid admission was unexpected, throwing the ball into the club's court has ignited debate among supporters and in the media.

Micah Richards has added his voice to the speculation about Salah's future, and he’s not alone. The consensus so far has been that Liverpool should move quickly to meet Salah’s demands.

However, former Reds captain Phil Thompson shared a different perspective in an interview with talkSPORT.

“I thought it was wrong timing from Mo if you ask me,” said Thompson.

“Listen, it’s difficult. He says there has not been any contract offer, and everybody has jumped on that, and media-wise, quite rightly so. It’s what they love.”

“I felt for the club a little bit. They won’t come out and say, ‘of course we have offered him a contract’, and that’s what I would like to think has happened. And with Van Dijk, and with Trent."

Something not quite correct says Thompson

The former midfielder added: “Is that actually what they want or do they see themselves moving for nothing at the end of the season? The club can’t come out and say, no, Mo is wrong, we have offered him a contract. And I would like to think something has.

“Whether it is not to his liking is another thing, but football clubs are like that. They do sort of hold back and they don’t want to come out into the media and say, of course we have.

“I think for Mo to say nobody has offered him a contract yet, I would like to think that is not quite correct.”
