Liverpool fans were fearing the worst when Ibrahima Konate was withdrawn against Brighton.

The French centre-back exited the pitch at the end of the first-half at Anfield in a lot of pain using his shirt as a makeshift sling. He was subsequently replaced by Joe Gomez who helped Liverpool win the game 2-1.

The Reds were concerned that Konate had fractured his wrist and would be sidelined for a number of weeks.

With games against Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Man City coming up it would be a huge loss for Arne Slot.

However Konate has given fans a huge sigh of relief.

Konate has now shared an encouraging update on his injury, stating he "will be ready" for Tuesday.

On Instagram, the Frenchman wrote: “Thanks for all the messages of support. My injury isn’t serious thankfully.

“I had a scan today and it confirmed there is no break. I’ll be ready for the next game. In Sha Allah!”

With the possibility of a broken wrist now ruled out, it appears he may have sustained a bone contusion or bruise, speculated @physioscout on X formerly Twitter.

The physiotherapist noted that recovery time for such an injury is typically "less than a week."

Konate exposes Slot weakness

It appears that Virgil van Dijk accidentally stepped on his teammate's wrist just before halftime, which seems to have caused the injury rather than an awkward landing, which may have led to a fractured wrist.

This theory is supported by Van Dijk’s post-match comments to Sky Sports, where he explained: “There were so many bodies around the ball, and I think I hit him on the arm."

Had Konate broken his wrist and required surgery it would have exposed a massive hole in Arne Slot's side.

Had the 25-year-old been sidelined, Liverpool would only have three centre backs available to them in Van Dijk, Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez meaning there would only be one option off the bench.

If one of them were to get injured, the Reds would have severely struggled and could have faced a disastrous crisis.

The lack of depth in that position is something that surely will need to be addressed in January.
