Here’s our Liverpool news recap for Saturday 27th July with updates on Curtis Jones, Trey Nyoni, Ryan Gravenberch, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Anthony Gordon.

Jones injury update

Curtis Jones was forced off through injury in the first-half as Liverpool's United States pre-season tour began with a 1-0 win over Real Betis.

Starting alongside Wataru Endo in the engine room, the 23-year-old was handed an opportunity to stake his claim for regular game time under new head coach Arne Slot after speaking of his eagerness to do so earlier in the week.

However, Jones lasted just over a half an hour against Betis thus leaving Liverpool waiting to discover the extent of the injury.

"I think it's too early to tell [how bad it is]. He maybe could have played on, but I think maybe you could see he was not at 100 per cent," Slot said when asked for an update on Jones.

Nyoni impresses

Liverpool wonderkid Trey Nyoni benefitted from Curtis Jones' early withdrawal against Real Betis as he caught the eye in the pre-season friendly.

The teenager made history last season when at the age of 16 and 243 days, he became the club's youngest-ever player to play in the FA Cup after making his first-team debut as a substitute for Harvey Elliott in the 3-0 fifth-round tie win against Southampton.

Having done that, the next aim for the 17-year-old is to earn more opportunities at senior level. And the fact he's been included in the USA tour squad is a good sign.

Furthermore, his display against Real Betis garnered sent some Liverpool fans into overdrive with one suggesting the club may have found the perfect replacement for Thiago Alcantara who recently retired after leaving upon the expiry of his contract.

Gordon transfer not off the table

Liverpool could still reignite their interest in Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon before the summer transfer window closes.

That is the view of journalist David Lynch as he has offered a glimmer of hope to Reds supporters by suggesting the club could 'revive' their interest in the England international after talks broke down last month due to price and the Magpies wanting Jarell Quansah included in a swap deal.

"On Anthony Gordon I think that’s one that has a real chance of being revived maybe later in the window," Lynch claimed when speaking with Anfield Agenda.

"Because the contract situation is there. That leaves Newcastle in a weak position in terms of negotiating, even though they've got past all the PSR trouble that they've got."

Trent gives Real Madrid signature

Amid reports that Trent Alexander-Arnold has agreed to join Real Madrid next summer, he's done something to add even more fuel to such rumours.

It's well documented that the 25-year-old has entered the final 12 month of his Liverpool contract and talk of a switch to Spain - to link up with close friend Jude Bellingham - refuses to go away.

Worryingly for supporters and new head coach Arne Slot, who reportedly is desperate to keep hold of the defender, TodoFichajes claim Alexander-Arnold is ready to run down his his deal at Anfield in order to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer next summer.

Of course, it remains to be seen if that's the case but in the meantime an image has emerged on social media - via @theMadridZone on X (formerly Twitter) showing the Reds hero signing a Real Madrid shirt for a supporter which is sure to add to the ongoing speculation.

Gravenberch in demand

Galatasaray's president and sporting director are reportedly travelling to the United Kingdom in a bid to sign Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

The Dutchman, who only arrived at Anfield from Bayern Munich for £34m last summer, endured a difficult debut season with the Reds which has prompted talk of an swift exit.

Multiple outlets in Turkey have revealed Galatasaray's interest in the 22-year-old and it would appear the next steps have been taken with Yeni Safak claiming president Dursun Ozbek and sporting director Cenk Ergun are set to travel to England to try and complete a deal for the former Ajax star.

It's said that Gala are interested in a loan deal for Gravenberch after opting against a signing Tanguy Ndombele permanently. However, they will have to do a lot of convincing with Slot apparently wanting to give his compatriot a chance to impress before making a final decision.
