Liverpool job posting could explain lack of transfers this summer

A new job posting by Liverpool FC could provide an insight into why this summer transfer window has been a quiet one so far.

Liverpool have recently advertised on their website for a Player Status Manager and the job seems to be heavily involved in the club’s transfer business and could explain the lack of it!

The Player Status Manager would be expected to: “Draft and execute player contracts, scholarship agreements, permanent and temporary transfer agreements, agent agreements and related contractual documents.”

This is one of many responsibilities for the role but it is plausible that the lack of Player Status Manager may well have effect Liverpool’s transfer window so far.

Liverpool’s backroom shuffle

Although there has been very little movement in the playing squad, with only three departures at the end of last season and no new incomings so far, the last few months have represented a huge period of change for Liverpool.

The first team coaching staff has changed almost entirely and for the first time in almost a decade Liverpool have a new head coach but there have also been major changes away from the sporting side of the club.

The structure of FSG’s football operations has changed entirely, with Michael Edwards being appointed the CEO of football. Julian Ward has also returned to FSG and a number of new faces have been added too.

The recruitment of a new Player Status Manager is a part of this off-pitch overhaul that has included the introduction of new sporting director Richard Hughes.

Why has this window been so quiet?

Hughes and Slot have been combining behind the scenes to conduct Liverpool’s transfer business this summer and all signs suggest that some incomings are likely.

A report from The Athletic this morning suggest that Liverpool are close to moving for a number 6 from outside of the Premier League and last week it was reported that Liverpool’s transfer window may be about to burst into life.

Although the introduction of a Player Status Manager could help speed up the process there are no indications that Liverpool will wait until this role is filled to make a move and it is more likely that other factors, such as Slot assessing the squad and summer international competitions are instead the reason behind Liverpool’s slow start to the transfer window.
