Liverpool dealt huge BLOW with new fixture list that BENEFITS Man City

The dates for Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League ‘league phase’ fixtures have been announced, revealing a very tricky run for the Reds.

Following Thursday’s Champions League draw, the dates of Liverpool’s league phase fixtures were released on Saturday.

The highlights of Liverpool's Champions League calendar include a trip to the San Siro to take on AC Milan as well as visits from both Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen to Anfield.

The change in Champions League format means that Liverpool will play eight fixtures in the initial phase of the competition rather than six and that all the matches will be against different opponents, rather than facing the same three teams home and away.

The dates for the Reds Champions League fixtures are as follows:

• AC Milan (A) 17 September 2024
• Bologna (H) 2 October 2024
• RB Leipzig (A) 23 October 2024
• Bayer Leverkusen (H) 5 November 2024
• Real Madrid (H) 27 November 2024
• Girona (A) 10 December 2024
• Lille (H) 21 January 2025
• PSV Eindhoven (A) 29 January 2025

Some Liverpool fans have already noticed a tricky run emerge when you put these fixtures into a calendar with Liverpool’s League matches.

Liverpool’s tough run

This five-game run could be season defining for Liverpool and will prove a real challenge for head coach Arne Slot in his first season at the club.

What makes this run even harder for Liverpool is that Manchester City play against Feyenoord at the Etihad on 26 November. This means that they will have an extra day to prepare for their visit to Anfield and will also come off the back of facing easier opponents.

Everton also play Wolves at Goodison on 3 December meaning they too will have an extra day to prepare for their clash against Liverpool and they also won’t have to travel, unlike Liverpool who face the 240 mile round journey to St James’ Park on 4 December when they face Newcastle.

Liverpool have started the season well but this run will be a real test for Slot and his Liverpool team and could throw a spanner in the works for any trophy aspirations the Reds may have this season.
