Liverpool coach Arne Slot's relationship with Alexander-Arnold CONCERNS Scholes

Liverpool currently have a perfect record in the Premier League under Arne Slot, winning all of their opening three games, scoring seven and conceding none in the process.

Despite this perfect start to on-the-pitch life at Liverpool under Slot, there are still some concerns around Liverpool’s off-pitch activity since the Dutchman took over.

Only one player, Federico Chiesa, was added to Liverpool's playing squad this summer, although a deal has been agreed for the transfer of Giorgi Mamardashvili in 2025, and three of Liverpool’s key players are out of contract at the end of this season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are all on deals that expire in less than a year and so far, at least publicly, it seems very little progress has been made towards the trio penning contract extensions.

Negotiations are reportedly set to begin soon with Salah, and presumably Virgil and Trent too, but Salah revealed after Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United that no one from the club had spoken to him about a new contract yet.

Does Slot like Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Now, more fuel has been added to the fire as Manchester United and England icon Paul Scholes has shared his opinion on Trent’s relationship with new boss Slot.

Speaking on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast, Scholes said: “Do you think Slot likes him?

“In the [Manchester United] game, every time [Trent] gave the ball away, he’s shaking his head, Slot. Kept looking away, turning round to his bench.

“Yeah and he kept shaking his head and turning round and I thought ‘f***ing hell, I’m not sure he likes him’.”

Scholes made 713 appearances for Manchester United, winning 11 Premier League titles.

Slot and Trent’s relationship

Slot and his vice-captain have already had what was perceived to be a public falling out following the 25-year-old being substituted off in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brentford but since then the pair seem to have made up and any fallout doesn’t seem to have carried on beyond that one heated exchange.

Trent has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season, both for club and country, and recently won back-to-back Player of the Match awards whilst on international duty with England.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was quick to join the conversation with Scholes on Stick to Football, saying: “I think the way Slot wants to play is that he doesn’t like that sort-of long ball as much yeah.

“Listen, [Slot] will want [Trent] to stay as a player, I just think it’s interesting going forward.”

No one outside of the Liverpool camp can truly tell if there is any kind of issue between Trent and Slot but supporters will be hopeful that the Reds no.66 will pen a new deal that sees him stay in Merseyside long after this season is finished.
