Liverpool have been handed a major new update when it comes to Alexis Mac Allister's fitness.

The midfielder has been a crucial part in Liverpool's success so far this season. Mac Allister has dominated the centre of the pitch, winning duels and allowing Slot's new system to be implemented perfectly.

However, the Argentinian has already played 12 games for club and country and with a jam-packed schedule coming up, his fitness has been a major concern.

Slot handed major boost

Mac Allister was withdrawn at half-time during Liverpool's last league game against Crystal Palace and injury fear followed, with Mac Allister facing a ‘muscle overload’ going into the last international break.

Slot confirmed that he was taken off due to injury, but was unsure whether Mac Allister would feature for Argentina in their recent round of World Cup Qualifiers.

The 25-year-old joined up with Lionel Scaloni's side undergoing a separate training programme. While the Liverpool man made the bench against Venezuela, he did not feature. However, he is set to start against Bolivia in Buenos Aires.

While Reds fans will be feeling relieved that Mac Allister will more than likely be able to feature against Chelsea at the weekend, many would have rather him not played, returning to Merseyside rested for this crucial part of the season.

With a seismic run of games coming up, including against Arsenal, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, Liverpool will need Mac Allister if they are serious about contending for the title this year.

The Premier League has joined other European leagues to file legal action against FIFA for the overcrowded football calendar and its easy to see why, with many players feeling overworked and getting injured just two months in.
