Liverpool eye up three INCREDIBLE stars - but they can only sign one
One of Liverpool’s key new strategies this season has clearly been to fill the holes in their squad with people who have already succeeded in the Premier League.
It’s a difficult strategy to execute. Signing in-division often comes with elevated prices from those selling, inflating deals compared to signing from overseas, and that’s if teams are willing to part with their best players to direct rivals at all.
The last player the Reds signed from a Premier League team was taking Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton back in the summer of 2023. Before that it was Diogo Jota from Wolves in 2020.
It really doesn’t happen often.
Yet, if the reports are true, then they are eyeing up a swoop for three Premier League players - all at Newcastle United.
Anthony Gordon was close to signing for the Reds in the summer before the deal fell through, yet the club remain keen. Alexander Isak is one of the best attackers in the world at-present and has attracted much attention, Liverpool included. And Lewis Hall has proven he is a starting left-back of the highest level, and Liverpool need refreshment at the position.

Realistically, Liverpool won’t sign all three of them. As established, signing one player from a Premier League team is a rarity.
So it begs the question - if it can only be one, then which one?
Alexander Isak
Isak feels like the immediate first choice. Whilst a potent attacking force this season, Liverpool are incredibly Salah-reliant for almost all of their attacking output. He has 52 goal involvements in the side’s 101 goals in all competitions - the next closest is Cody Gakpo with 21.
Luis Diaz is top of the three players that have played centrally, with 17 goal involvements. Yet only six of these have come when he was operating in the centre-forward position.
As a result, signing one of the best central strikers in the world right now feels like a ‘can’t lose’ decision.

Anthony Gordon
This also covers the prevailing opinion on Anthony Gordon. Gordon has been one of the Premier League’s better players for a few years now, developing into a real top level left winger. His 15 goal involvements this season put him on a similar pace to the 23 he achieved last year.
But, as stated above, Liverpool are ripe with left-wing talent. Both Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have proved highly effective operators there under Arne Slot and, even if Diaz leaves like the reports suggest, Liverpool have actual holes that need filling in the team.
Lewis Hall
One of the weaker spots in the side this season has been left-back. Andy Robertson has cemented his place in the Liverpool legendarium, being one of the most iconic figures of one of the most iconic periods of the team’s history. By the end of this season he could have two Premier League and two Champions League medals to his name.
But, across the season, he has been off the pace. He seems to have slowed down just enough to be making costly mistakes and, for a team seeking to be the best in the world, it just won’t play.
This isn’t suggesting getting rid of him immediately, but the club are clearly looking to move on. They are reportedly interested in Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, but Lewis Hall is a very exciting option too.

After moving to Newcastle from Chelsea at the start of last season, it was unsure what would be made of the youngster. He was just turning 19 and had only made a handful of professional appearances. But in March 2025 he looks like he will become England’s starting left-back and the sky is the limit. Liverpool are interested for a reason.
It follows, then, that the suggestion should be Isak, then Hall, then Gordon. The team have no true established top level striker, but do have a good option at left-back and an even better one on the left-wing.
But it will all be about funds and player’s desire. If Newcastle fail to get European football this year they may be forced to reduce their asking prices, but these deals will be tough.
Yet there’s no hiding that they can get done.
