In truth it’s looked inevitable that Arne Slot’s side would wrap up the title for a long time now, accumulating an unassailable lead and leaving the competition trailing in their wake.

The Reds have not blinked in the run-in, meaning even if Arsenal stayed perfect then they still wouldn’t have had enough to catch the soon-to-be 20-time champions of England.

The only blip on their record in the last couple of months was a narrow 3-2 defeat at Fulham. Elsewhere, Liverpool have won six of their last seven to ease towards the title.

Luis Diaz comes up CLUTCH

Admittedly, during that sequence, Mohamed Salah hasn’t been in his best form. Now armed with a new contract until 2027, the 32-year-old has been a little off the boil of late.

The last time he scored was March 8, when he rattled in two penalties against Southampton. But even as Salah has faltered, Liverpool have got themselves another MVP.

In fact, Luis Diaz is the Premier League’s most in-form player according to the latest analysis by Who Scored. With an average score of 7.98 over the course of the last six PL matches, Diaz heads the rankings ahead of Newcastle pair Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes.

The Colombia international has got three assists and two goals during the last six games - five valuable goal contributions as Slot’s side tidy up the title win.

Diaz, 28, has faced down his critics all season long amid suggestions that he wouldn’t have the consistency or end product to satisfy the new coach.

But his output across the season has been solid; 11 goals and five assists across 27 games and he’s even helped out at No9 when required.

Luis Diaz future under threat

Liverpool have got a tireless and willing worker in Diaz and they should consider carefully what they want to do next.

Diaz is out of contract in 2027 having signed a five-year deal when transferring from Porto in 2022.

The forward remains on the same terms he signed back then - said to be worth around £55,000 per week - and there appears to be a standoff over a renewal.

Diaz would like a pay rise to reflect his contributions in a title-winning team but Liverpool thus far have had cold feet.

It may be the case that they part ways in summer should a suitable approach be made. One thing is for sure, Diaz has had the season of his life and has proven once and for all that he can step up to the plate and be a clutch player.
