Liverpool's Mo Salah successor hands in transfer request
Liverpool are no longer under great pressure to replace Mohamed Salah - for another couple of seasons at least.
With his previous contract expiring in summer 2025, the club were in a race against time to find a long-term successor to one of their greatest-ever players.

The 32-year-old’s new deal means that sporting director Richard Hughes and head coach Arne Slot can pore over candidates a little more closely, and even sign a NEW right winger even while Salah is still at Anfield.

That could help reduce the burden on the Egyptian King as he grows older over the coming seasons and of course lessen the pressure on a new face to make a sudden impact.
One option the club have been looking at over the course of the last year or so is Takefusa Kubo of Real Sociedad. The 23-year-old is under contract until 2029 but is reported to have a €60 million release clause in his contract.
This season Kubo has scored five goals in 31 La Liga matches during what has been an underwhelming campaign for the club.
Indeed, La Real’s league form sees them down in 10th place - a far cry from their regular place in the top six, qualifying for the Champions League and winning the Copa del Rey.
Kubo hands in transfer request
Head coach Imanol Alguacil has now made the announcement that he will step down at the end of the season following an otherwise successful spell of six and a half years in charge.
And that decision will have far-reaching consequences inside the dressing room at the Anoeta Stadium with Fichajes reporting that THREE key players have requested a transfer upon the news that Alguacil will be leaving.
Former Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi, Jon Aramburu and Kubo are listed among the names who have already handed in transfer requests.
Could Kubo be the man to replace Salah?
“Following the departure of the manager who defined an era at the club, three of its most representative players— Takefusa Kubo, MartĂn Zubimendi, and Jon Aramburu —have formally requested to leave the club this summer,” the report reads.
“Take Kubo, one of the squad's most impactful players, already has suitors in the Premier League, with Liverpool and Newcastle showing interest.”

It remains to be seen what Hughes and Slot plan to do on the right wing and plans to relieve Salah by adding Federico Chiesa to the squad went up in smoke. Kubo could be just the kind of player to be groomed as a Salah successor over the next couple of years.
