Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world.

He has registered 37 goal contributions for Liverpool so far this season, and we are only halfway through the campaign.

As such, it is a crime that the club finds itself in a situation where the Egyptian winger could leave Liverpool for free at the end of the season as his contract reaches its expiration.

Richard Hughes and the club's executives are working tirelessly on reaching an agreement to extend his stay on Merseyside, but as Salah said in his own words earlier this year, he is "currently more out than in", unless the situation changes.

He has not been short of rumoured moves away from the club and Salah's sister may just have given the biggest hint yet as to where the 32-year-old may be playing his football next season.

Salah set for dream homecoming move

So far, we have all assumed that if Salah were to leave Liverpool he would be destined to play in the Saudi Pro League. This is in part because of his Arabic heritage and the need for the Saudis to have the eyes of the world fixated on their competition.

But in an interview with Youm7, Rabab Salah - Mo's sister - has given a direct insight into where Mo might choose to go if Liverpool were to be unsuccessful in their contract negotiations.

When asked about her family's involvement with football, she said: "I watch Salah's matches, but I'm not into football. It's none of my business whether this team played today or that one didn't. I only watch Salah and the national team's matches.

"[However] My dad supports the Ismaily Club. We grew up and found that my father supported Ismaily, so we also supported them. Salah also mentioned once that he supports Ismaily."

While many had considered the Saudi move to be a real possibility, because Salah would be a lot closer to his family than he is now in Liverpool, it could be more realistic that he returns to play in the Egyptian Pro League.

Ismaily is based on the east side of the country, while Salah grew up in Nagrig which is based in the central region of Egypt, but the move would enable him to play professionally in the Middle East for the first time in his career.

There are currently no transfer links suggesting that Salah could return home, but the insight given by his sister could prove to be invaluable if Liverpool decide to let him go.

However, it is unlikely that Salah will want to leave European football anytime soon given his current ambitions to win everything in sight this year, and while playing in such great form, he could easily continue to compete at the top level for many years before he considers retirement.
