If we take Mohamed Salah's perspective on his future at face value, then it seems likely that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

In his last interview with the media, he made it clear that he and the club are nowhere near an agreement to extend his contract, as he intends to focus purely on matters on the pitch for the remainder of the campaign.

And while this does not mean that he has given up on the idea of staying at Liverpool for a few more years, it is clear that he has a clear idea of what he is worth and the club has yet to reach the same figure in the negotiations.

As of January 1, Salah can speak to representatives at clubs around the world surrounding an agreement to secure his future beyond this season and there is no shortage of potential suitors, especially clubs based in Saudi Arabia.

'Salah has signed an agreement'

Abdulhadi - a member of the Saudi Federation of Sports Media - is reporting on X (formerly Twitter) that Spanish sources are confident that Salah has reached an agreement.

The social media post reads: "Today, Mohamed Salah concluded his agreement with representatives from Saudi Arabia to play in the Roshn League next season, but he does not know the name of the club yet."

The Roshn League is another name for the Saudi Pro League and although it might appear strange that Salah does not know his club yet, if this rumour is to be believed, there is some logic to the practice.

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) has full ownership of four clubs in the league - Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli.

And so while this agreement might be construed on the face of it as a pre-contract agreement with a specific club, it could be that Salah has agreed with the government to play in the country, but he will not know who he will play for until the organisation makes a decision.

The notion that Salah could play in the Saudi Pro League has long been rumoured and Al-Hilal have been specifically mentioned as the main contender to secure the Egyptian's signature.

Whether this report proves to be accurate will be a waiting game, as sources can often be wrong and the lack of specificity in the agreement suggests that its accuracy should be taken with some doubt in mind.

However, given the lack of a breakthrough between Salah and Liverpool, there is a very real possibility that Salah could leave, with this latest report suggesting that the writing may already be on the wall.
