Liverpool FEAR is clear to see as Mo Salah named on football RICH list
With a new contract on the horizon for Mo Salah it is undoubted that it will come with a substantial pay rise, regardless of whether that contract is with Liverpool or any other team.
At current, Salah is reportedly earning £350,000 a week. This is a seismic figure beaten only by Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland. Any new contract would probably have to make him the highest-paid player in the league, meaning £400,000 a week at the bare minimum.
Salah’s earnings are heavily supplemented by his off-field earnings, however.
Forbes have released their Highest-Paid Football Players 2024 list and Salah ranks 8th on the list. Forbes report that Salah’s on-pitch earnings come to £27m whilst his off-pitch earnings amount to around £14m.
“Salah’s star power extends from the Premier League to North Africa and the Middle East, making him a hot commodity for brands operating in that region.” reads Forbes’ bio on the Egyptian.
“He has worked with Vodafone, Mountain View Egypt, Pepsi and Adidas, to name a few, and boasts an audience of nearly 100 million followers across Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).”
Salah's Saudi Salary Issue
And this is evident when looking at the rest of the list, as Salah ranks 5th for off-pitch earnings. He is only beaten by Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in this regard which is, I’m sure everyone agrees, understandable.
His 8th overall ranking is due to the enormous contracts that Karim Benzema, Erling Haaland and Vinicius Jr. claim. Benzema’s $104m earnings, split wonderfully as $100m in salary and $4m in off-pitch payments, demonstrates just how significant the lure of Saudi Arabia can be.
No one can compete in that regard. Cristiano Ronaldo’s $220m salary outpaces any European-based player by nearly four times the amount.
And with Salah’s appeal in the region, it is not unreasonable to suggest that he could become the world’s highest-paid player if he doesn’t re-sign with Liverpool this summer.
