How many penalties has Mo Salah scored for Liverpool?
Part of the disappointment that came from losing in a penalty shootout to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night was that Liverpool have some very good penalty takers on their books.
As demonstrated by Mo Salah time and time again, penalties don’t have to be difficult. Hit it hard and fast into a place difficult for a goalkeeper to get to.

Around 80% of penalties go in and so missing 66% of the penalties taken in the shootout is inexcusable.
But that’s Salah for you. Time and time again he proves to be the exception to any of football’s established rules.
Salah has scored 44 penalties for Liverpool and missed 8
And that’s the same with penalties. In fact, Salah has scored 50 penalties in his career, missing only 11. That’s a whopping 81.97% success rate.

Six of those converted have been for Egypt, meaning he’s netted 44 for Liverpool.
34 of these have come in the Premier League, with six in the Champions League (the most memorable of which may be in the 2019 final against Tottenham), two in the Europa League, with one each in the League Cup and Community Shield.
Eight of his 11 misses have been for Liverpool with three coming for Egypt. Three have come in games Liverpool failed to win: 1-0 to Leicester in December 2021, 1-0 to Bournemouth in March 2023, and the 2-2 draw with Arsenal in April 2023.

There was, of course, the unexpected miss earlier this season in the 2-0 win against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
But this has perhaps been offset by the 11 conversions he’s had from the spot in all competitions this season.
It’s also fascinating that, out of the 52 penalties he’s taken for Liverpool in his career, 12 have come this season.
Having spent eight seasons at Liverpool this creates an average of 6.5 a year for the club. Before this season it was 5.7.
Clearly there’s been a huge element of fortune for the Reds this year, or Arne Slot’s play style gives the team moe opportunities to be fouled inside the box.
Regardless, Salah is a penalty machine. And long may it continue.
