Under the direction of Andoni Iraola, the Cherries are flying in the league, hunting down a potential European spot by the end of the campaign. It is no surprise that Liverpool are considering a move for Kerkez now that he is performing well on a regular basis.

In addition, Dominik Szoboszlai is in constant communication with his international teammate, so it is possible that the Hungary national team captain could manufacture a move for Kerkez to Merseyside.

The idea of moving to Liverpool is growing on Kerkez

Back in November, Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Liverpool were in preliminary talks with Kerkez and his representatives and in the months since, he has only continued to prove why Liverpool are interested in him.

His profile is very similar to that of Andy Robertson, whom he might go on to replace, through constantly running down the channels to assist the attackers, while ensuring he is compact and aggressive in his one-on-one defensive situations.

However, the rumours regarding the 21-year-old quickly died down in January when a video circulated of him on a live stream claiming that 'he will not go to Liverpool', which made it clear that the player was not quite convinced of the move.

But of course, this statement was made while the winter transfer window was open, so it is plausible that his dismissal of a move to Merseyside might have been in relation to the specific time period.

Since then, we have seen Hungary's national team manager contemplate where the player might be playing next season and more information has come out in relation to Szoboszlai's relationship with Kerkez.

Now, in an interview with Nemzetisport - a Hungarian sports website - Kerkez has formally addressed with Liverpool rumours and his latest response is much more promising.

He said: "It wouldn’t look bad [working with Szoboszlai at Liverpool], that’s for sure. But it’s too early to talk about something like that.

"I have big goals with Bournemouth, we still have a lot of games to win, that’s the most important thing right now.”

Of course, his current season with Bournemouth should take priority in his thinking. The Cherries are sitting fifth in the Premier League. Engaging in speculation about next season wouldn't be the right thing to do.

But when you consider how defiant Kerkez was in response to the rumour last month, he now has a remarkably different perspective on things, and Liverpool should feel optimistic about their chances when the summer rolls around.

Until then, we will have to feed off the speculation and enjoy his performances at Bournemouth for the remainder of the season. But in the hunt for a new left-back, it is clear that the Reds have a great option on the table in Kerkez to consider.
