Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp bids EMOTIONAL farewell to Anfield

Jurgen Klopp stands inside the centre circle on the hallowed Anfield turf taking it all in, as he bids a lonesome farewell to the stadium he called home for the past nine years.

The 56-year-old Liverpool manager will preside over his final game in charge of the club this weekend when Wolves visit Merseyside in the final Premier League game of the season.

It promises to be an emotional occasion for all involved with more than 60,000 fans getting their opportunity to say goodbye and thank you to the man who helped restore the glory days to the club.

Throughout his tenure, the German tactician has swept the board for all the major prizes - including the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and more.

In fact the only prize he tried for and didn’t get proved to be the Europa League.

That was one of THREE titles which slipped out of Liverpool’s grasp in the closing stages of Klopp’s final season in charge.

Dreams of a quadruple ebbed away, with the Reds managing to claim the Carabao Cup in February but failing to deliver on their promises in the other competitions.

When Klopp announced he was leaving, fans dreamed of giving him the perfect send-off, with Liverpool in contention for the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Europa League too.

It hasn’t worked out like that but this weekend is about so much more than one season, it’s about a lifetime of memories, a sense of pride and identity, and giving the ultimate going-away party to the person who deserves it more than any other.

On Tuesday, as part of filming for a documentary, Klopp had the opportunity to step onto the Anfield turf and be alone with his thoughts.

Who knows what will have gone through his mind.

There are so many highlights, so many moments, so many times when Klopp stood in front of the Kop pumping his fist and letting the faithful know: ‘I’m one of you’.

It’ll be jarring and strange to see another manager in his place next season and so this week is about reflecting on the good times, forgetting the bad, and making sure the Reds can get behind Jurgen one last time.
