Next Liverpool manager Arne Slot SLAMMED by Feyenoord fans

Arne Slot has been SLAMMED on social media by fans of his current club Feyenoord, with accusations that he ‘scammed’ the Rotterdam side owing to an expensive transfer flop that hasn’t worked out.

Feyenoord named a much-changed lineup for their Eredivisie game against NEC at the weekend, winning 3-2 away from home on Sunday thanks to goals from Calvin Stengs, Yankuba Minteh and Ayase Ueda.

But midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki came in for some harsh criticism online during and after the game. He was singled out by Feyenoord fans as being lacking in sufficient quality to play for their club, with supporters pointing the finger at Slot for overseeing his signing in the first place.

The 25-year-old had established a decent reputation as a quality Dutch league midfielder for Twente, with Slot trying and failing to sign the Algeria international back in 2022.

The incoming Liverpool coach got his wish last summer when Zerrouki moved to De Kuip for just over €7 million.

That is not an insignificant fee in Dutch terms, with Zerrouki being Feyenoord’s FIFTH most-expensive transfer of all time behind only star centre back David Hancko, striker Ueda, Croatian winger Luka Ivanusec and Tottenham-linked midfielder Quinten Timber.

Slot was delighted with his acquisition last summer with Feyenoord losing midfielders Fredrik Aursnes and Orkun Kökçü to Benfica.

“It’s great that we managed to get him in,” the coach said, according to De Telegraaf. “Zerrouki is someone who guards the balance and shapes the structure.

“He wins a lot of balls and is a winner. He would be an asset to many clubs.”

Slot flop: '8 million flushed down the toilet'

But Zerrouki has not lived up to expectations, making only 14 Eredivisie starts and contributing no goals or assists this season.

He was afforded another chance to impress against NEC but fans on social media platform X, formerly Twitter were quick to express their displeasure.

“Zerrouki and Van den Belt together in the same midfield,” wrote one fan. “What a terrible duo.”

“I really like Slot but with Zerrouki he really scammed us,” wrote another.

A third said: “It's unbelievable how bad Zerrouki is. Played by everyone, he’s as slow as sh*t and has the turning circle of a truck. 8 million flushed down the toilet."

Slot will be appointed to a head coach role at Liverpool, rather than manager, meaning that he will have less say in transfers than previous incumbent Jurgen Klopp.

Transfers will be overseen by Richard Hughes, incoming sporting director, and FSG's new CEO of Football, Michael Edwards.

Hopefully no more Zerrouki situations arise for Slot at his new club.
