Man Utd pundit BLAMES Anthony Taylor for Casemiro blunders in Liverpool defeat

The ongoing dissection of Liverpool's ruthless masterclass at Old Trafford on Sunday has taken a new twist, after one US-based pundit pointed the finger at FIFA referee Anthony Taylor for the Luiz Diaz double conceded by Manchester United in the first half.

In what was seemingly another attempt to take some of the blame away from United's hapless Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, Golazo Network analyst Ian Paul Joy claimed Taylor was at fault for two fatal turnovers of possession, by standing in the wrong position in the build-up to both goals.

Joy used video footage to show the man in black blocking Bruno Fernandes's futile attempts to launch two attacks with his trademark forward passes to the flanks. When the United captain was forced to turn back to Casemiro, instead of finding the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford, Liverpool's razor-sharp front six punished the South American's dawdling on the ball to devastating effect.

“It annoyed me greatly, after watching this clip 100 times, that the referee got in the way,” complained Joy, unwittingly weakening his own argument. If the video needed that amount of viewing, then surely Taylor’s position was not as bad as the pundit would have us believe?

“We should be speaking more about where the referee is!” screamed United fan Joy, undeterred, as his one-man witch hunt continued to the bemusement of his co-host Michael Lahoud.

Joy ranted on: “It's something that should never happen when it comes to a professional game of this standard.

“He [Casemiro] was at fault for the first goal, but I still think Anthony Taylor needs to be blamed there. Bruno probably should have just kicked the ball off the referee because then the game would have been stopped.

“Second time around, for me, there's no excuse for Anthony Taylor to be in that position [when] Bruno wants to go forward.

“Everyone's going to blame Casemiro at the end of the day. But I still think the referee's got to take some sort of the fault.”
