Liverpool make initial 'contact' for highly-rated French midfielder

According to reports from France, Liverpool have already contacted Aurelien Tchouameni's representatives over a possible transfer.

Today, reliable French journalist Santi Aouna tweeted that Liverpool are currently targeting Monaco's 22-year-old Aurelien Tchouameni.

Aouna also confirmed that Liverpool have already contacted the French midfielder's representatives ahead of a summer transfer.

Finally, the tweet goes on to say that Tchouameni is interested in the idea of playing in the Premier League.

However, in another report, as cited by Madrid Zone's Twitter account, Santi says that Tchouameni seems 'promised' to Real Madrid.

He even goes as far as to say that the 22-year-old likes the idea of moving to Real Madrid. Unfortunately for Madrid fans though, there are many things still to be settled, such as the financial term of his arrival.

Anfield Watch Verdict

If Liverpool were to sign Tchouameni, he would do absolute wonders at Anfield. Despite only being 22-years-old, he has already played 129 professional games at club level.

Tchouameni has also made his debut for the France national team too, making eight appearances in total for his country despite his young age.

Looking at this from a Liverpool standpoint, being in for Tchouameni makes so much sense. He is young, but not so young that he has no experience.

He can also play multiple roles. The 22-year-old can confidently play as a central defensive midfielder and he can also be a ball-winning eight, something that Liverpool are currently lacking on that right-hand side of midfield.

The rumours around his price also make him a Liverpool-esque signing, with it being reported that the Reds could secure his transfer for as much as £40m.

If the reports from last season are to be believed then Liverpool will be signing a central midfielder this summer and Tchouameni fits the bill for a great long-term investment in my opinion.

Also, our last signing from Monaco didn't turn out too bad did he!
