Last summer this saw Liverpool bring in Rio Ngumoha. The summer before that the Reds signed Trey Nyoni and the list goes on and on with the likes of Ben Doak, Bobby Clark, Harvey Elliott and Kaide Gordon being recruited in recent years.

This policy is set to continue under Michael Edwards' new leadership structure and Liverpool are already eyeing up their next potential transfer deals.

One of the young players on the club's radar is someone who has been very highly rated for a number of years and who the club are now actively making steps to pursue a deal for.

Not to mention, he's even earned a nickname because of his likeness to Lionel Messi's style of play.

Liverpool make first step to signing Tyler Dibling

That player is Tyler Dibling who has been on Liverpool's radar for a long time after catching the eye for Southampton's academy.

Dibling ended up briefly moving to Chelsea, but just like another Liverpool winger in Mo Salah he didn't quite hit the ground running there.

Instead, he's moved back to Southampton where he has continued to excel. Despite playing for a struggling side, Dibling has still managed to average 0.28 goal contributions per 90 minutes, which is six goals and assists in 1881 minutes in all competitions.

The 19-year-old has mainly stood out for his brilliant and elusive dribbling ability. Out of players who average at least five dribbles per 90 in the Premier League this season, Dibling ranks 11th for success rate with 51%.

Doing that in one of the worst side's in Premier League history is some feat and it's no wonder he has earned comparisons to Lionel Messi. In fact his nickname is the 'Staplewood Messi' at Southampton and he's previously described Messi as his inspiration and idol growing up.

There is no denying he'll be on the move this summer and it's no surprise he has attracted the attention of the likes of Liverpool who have now made the first step to signing him by travelling to observe his recent performance for England's U19 side in Bangor against Wales.

According to Sgorio's commentary, scouts from Liverpool and Manchester United were both in attendance to watch Dibling.

He's already represented England's U21 side but has dropped down a level in order to ensure the young Three Lions qualify for the U19 European Championship which is what is at stake during this international break.

He's definitely caught the eye in this first match as well, completing five out of his nine dribble attempts and helping England win the game 2-0.

Whether Liverpool make further moves for Dibling remains to be seen, but it's clear the club regards him as a serious enough target to require scouting from close up.
