Liverpool have made an offer of €25m (£21.5m) for Celta Vigo's Gabri Veiga, according to one report.

The Reds still have work to do on their much-discussed midfield rebuild, despite the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for £95m.

With the recent exits of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia — and having already waved goodbye to James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Liverpool are in need of further recruits in the middle of the park.

Melissa Reddy reported this week that the 2019/20 Premier League champions are looking for 'two profiles' – a 'progressive destroyer' and a 'controller' – with Romeo Lavia (Southampton) and Andre Trindade (Fluminense) heavily linked.

However, one report from Spain claims the Reds are in the market for a different type of midfielder and have made a bid for 21-year-old Celta star Gabri Veiga.

Last week it was claimed that Liverpool officials had met with club legend Rafa Benitez – now manager of Celta – to discuss the rising talent, while a fresh report from Deportes COPE Galicia (via Estadio Deportivo) claims there has now been an offer.

The report says the Reds have made a 'juicy' €25m bid for Veiga – who has a €40m (£34m) release clause – while the deal is made more tempting for Celta with an offer to loan the player back for the coming season.

Veiga represents a much more attacking option than the other midfielders Liverpool have been linked with in recent weeks, and doesn't necessarily fit either 'profile' identified by Reddy.

The Spain Under-21 star scored an impressive 11 goals in 36 appearances in La Liga in 2022/23 and has previously been written about as a potential target for Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Estadio Deportivo adds that the Premier League is Veiga's most likely next destination.
