As the season rolls into its latter months and Liverpool edge ever-closer to that elusive 20th league title, it is becoming clear how much of an earthquake this summer is set to be.

Between the re-signings, restructurings and departures, Liverpool’s squad is almost certain to look alarmingly different come the start of next season.

We all know about the potential farewells to Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but a host of other players have emerged as unhappy with their place at Anfield at present.

One of these has been Luis Diaz. For the past few months now reports that the Colombian has been unhappy with new contract offers have emerged and links to various teams - Chelsea being the most alarming - have been rifling around.

And according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, his newest suitors are set to be Atletico Madrid.

The report states that “With the possible departure of Antoine Griezmann to the MLS, the red-and-white club are looking for a player to reinforce their attack, and the Colombian is seen as an ideal option for Diego Simeone's scheme”.

Simeone would reportedly value him due to the versatility that he has displayed under Arne Slot this season, more out of necessity than anything else.

But the report goes on to state that Liverpool would be willing to let Diaz go and are listening to offers between €60-70 million (£49.5-57m).

This is the first time in this cycle that we have seen a definitive number placed on the winger. It lines up with the reported £50m the Reds were looking for during the summer when Diaz was linked to Barcelona, but reflects an inflation in his value through his performance this season.

Atleti sit top of La Liga at time of writing after defeating title-chasing Athletic Club Bilbao on Saturday evening, with Barcelona able to leapfrog them with a win today.

Their brilliant performance this season has stemmed from their dynamism in attack when breaking out of the defensive structure they are rigorously put in by manager Simeone.

Julian Alvarez, Antoine Griezmann and Alexander Sorloth carry almost the entire load of this, scoring 21, 16 and 13 goals in all competitions, respectively, this season.

With Griezmann and Sorloth both being linked with moves away from Madrid, however, a squad regeneration would become very necessary.

If Diaz were to replace one of them he would have to find form that has been scarce during his time on Merseyside - his 13 goals this season match his highest ever whilst at Liverpool, and Griezmann is known for his goal creation as much as anything else.

Diaz should not be sold and give him a pay rise.
