Liverpool will travel to St Mary's to face Southampton on Wednesday afternoon as they look to continue their run in the League Cup.

The Reds are the title holders, having lifted the competition under Jurgen Klopp back in February of last year.

And some of the supporting cast who played in that incredible final at Wembley could be involved as Slot expects to make a myriad of changes.

This means there will be plenty of young players coming into the line-up and we might get to see more of Wataru Endo as well.

Here is the expected lineup for Liverpool vs Southampton at St Mary’s.

The back line

Caoimhin Kelleher could come in for Alisson for this one considering Vitezslav Jaros has been used in League Cup games while the Brazilian was out.

Liverpool currently only have four match fit defenders with injuries to Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley as well as the suspension to Andy Robertson.

Kostas Tsimikas is back in training but he is unlikely to start against Southampton.

This means there could be some new faces and some old faces coming into the side. James Norris could start at left-back making an appearance for the first team after three years.

Amara Nallo may also come in to play in the centre-back role to give the likes of Van Dijk a bit of a rest ahead of the weekend. Nallo would be making his debut if he does feature.

There's also the possibility of Wataru Endo dropping back to play in that role.

The midfield battle

With so many games in their legs, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch won't be involved for this one.

Instead, it could be Wataru Endo starting alongside Tyler Morton with the no.10 position occupied by Alexis Mac Allister who hasn't played since Newcastle due to suspensions and could use the game to get some match sharpness in his legs.

However, if Endo does start at centre-back then we could also see Elliott being used in the no.10 role with Morton and Mac Allister providing the double pivot.

So, expect Slot to still go relatively strong.

The front three

There's a temptation here to start someone like Rio Ngumoha or Jayden Danns. However, we are not expecting Slot to make such a bold call.

Chances are Darwin Nunez will be used as a striker.

However, on the left-wing we could see Trey Nyoni makes his first ever start for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott or Federico Chiesa could be called upon to play on either flank in order to give Liverpool's current front choice a bit of a rest.

Although we expect Elliott to play in the no.10 role so the Italian gets the nod ahead on the right.

As the game progresses, someone like Danns could easily come off the bench.

(4-2-1-3): Kelleher, Quansah, Nallo, Endo, Norris, Morton, Mac Allister, Elliott, Nyoni, Chiesa, Nunez
