Joe Gomez has been recalled to the Liverpool matchday squad for the Premier League clash against Brentford.

The versatile defender, who Anfield Watch understands is open to leaving the Merseyside giants before the summer transfer window closes, was a notable omission against Ipswich Town last weekend leading to head coach Arne Slot addressing the ongoing rumours.

"He's worked really hard since he came back, but he didn't play a lot at the Euros," the Dutchman told reporters. "When he came back in the first sessions he couldn't train the whole sessions, so we had to manage his load a bit.

"That was also the reason why he wasn't in the team last Saturday. But this week he had a good week in terms of load and how much he could do with the team. It's been a good week for him and for us until now."

Fast forward eight days and Gomez is back in favour. Named among the Liverpool substitutes alongside the likes of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo with Curtis Jones dropping out of the squad altogether.

In terms of the lineup chosen by Slot, he has opted to make just one change to the side that started at Portman Road with Ibrahima Konate replacing Jarell Quansah to partner captain Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

Meanwhile Ryan Gravenberch does start in the defensive midfield role once again. There had been concerns over the Dutchman's availability for the visit of the Bees after not taking part in an outdoor training session ahead of the game, but he is fine to retain his place alongside Alexis Mac Allister.

As for the visitors, former Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg is named amongst the substitutes just days after completing his transfer. Fabio Carvalho is also on the bench as he seeks to make his second appearance for Thomas Frank's side following his own switch from Merseyside.
