Liverpool are lining up a potential superstar to replace Fabinho at last in what could be a landmark deal for the Reds.

One of Arne Slot's biggest problems this season has probably been his midfield. In recent weeks, the Dutchman is starting to realise he can rely on Wataru Endo.

However, in the months and months prior, Ryan Gravenberch has been the player solely tasked with playing the holding midfield position in games that mattered.

The former Ajax and Bayern Munich star has definitely been a little overused and it's clear fatigue might be starting to kick in. Going forward Liverpool need to bring in a midfielder who can offer some respite.

And that is what Richard Hughes might be planning to do as he looks to emulate Michael Edwards' move for Fabinho with another genius deal of his own from AS Monaco.

Why Lamine Camara is being lined up as the next Fabinho at Liverpool

Let's be honest ever since Fabinho left the club in the summer of 2023, Liverpool haven't really replaced him. There have been some attempts to do so but none of them have worked come to fruition.

Liverpool failed to sing both Moises Caicedo and Martin Zubimendi. That simply cannot happen again this summer. Gravenberch needs a back-up option alongside him.

And it seems like Liverpool are in the market for one. According to a recent report by TBR Football, Liverpool are among the clubs looking to make a move for Lamine Camara.

The midfielder has been catching the eye at AS Monaco this season and he seems like the perfect choice.

Obviously, it's also where Fabinho caught the eye before making the move to Anfield but that's not the only reason why Camara is an ideal fit.

One of the most important stats that you need as a midfielder under Slot is the ability to cover a lot of ground. This season Camara averages 11.2km covered per 90 minutes in the Champions League.

That's more than Gravenberch (10.93km per 90) and slightly less than Liverpool's leader for the metric, Dominik Szoboszlai (11.7km per 90).

Camara has a lot of energy, but there's much more to him as well. He's also someone who is excellent on the ball and can manipulate and instigate chances for his teammates.

As per FBref, Camara averages 5.74 progressive passes per 90. This puts him in the middle of Zubimendi (6.93) and Gravenberch (5.33).

But he's head and shoulders above them for key passes with 17 in total so far this season as opposed to Zubimendi (10) and Gravenberch (8). He's done that while playing fewer minutes as well.

He's valued at €25.3m according to Football Transfers. Liverpool would probably have to pay more than that to bring him to the club. But he'd be worth the price.

There is so much to like about Camara and he's the right age profile as well. Having only turned 21 years old in January, he's got a huge future ahead of him.

Plus, the last time Liverpool signed a player who came through the Generation Foot academy, it was Sadio Mane and he ended up doing alright.

As the biggest academy product from Generation Foot to follow in the footsteps of Mane would clearly be a dream kind of move for Camara himself.
