Liverpool have 'set their eyes' on Simeone
The name Simeone is recognised around the world as a former professional footballer, turned legendary manager at Atletico Madrid, in reference to Diego Simeone.
However, Rojiblancos is home to not just one member of the Simeone family, but two, as the Argentine manager's son is also part of the club.
Giuliano Simeone learnt his trade at River Plate's academy, before moving to Atletico Madrid's academy in 2019, but through hard work and determination at a couple of different clubs on loan moves, he has since been able to join his father's first team squad.
Last season, he managed to receive regular minutes for Atletico, scoring one goal and making two assists from six starts, but this season he's been given a lot more license in the team, making 14 starts with one goal and four assists coming from them.
Now, in a report from the Spanish sports outlet Fichajes, Liverpool are said to be interested in the Argentine, potentially look at him as a new cover player for Mohamed Salah or Federico Chiesa at right-wing in Arne Slot's team.
The 22-year-old has bags of talent and with a ¢40m asking price, he is a player that the club could easily take a gamble on, with the assurance that he will eventually flourish into a someone who could have a real impact on the team.
Salah's contract situation is still unresolved, so he might need replacing in the summer and Chiesa is yet to really get his Liverpool career started having been impact by injuries for most of the campaign so far.
And given the task of replacing a player such as Salah is so big, it is likely that a few players would need to be brought in to even begin to cover his absence, and so working with potential rather than ready-made players would be the more cost-effective option.
