Liverpool 4-0 Leicester — Player Ratings

A slow start to a game has never been so misleading, with Liverpool going from strength to strength in their rampant 4-0 win against Leicester City on Sunday.

It was a relatively slow start to the game, with both teams adjusting to the Singapore heat - but after around eight minutes, Liverpool began to burst into life.

A fantastic save from Caoimhin Kelleher to keep the Reds from trailing early on, was immediately followed up with the ball in the back of the net for Liverpool down the other end - though it was ruled out for offside.

Trent Alexander-Arnold played a magnificent looping ball over to Darwin Nunez, who touched it down, flicked it over the Leicester keeper and dispatched it calmly, before realising he had, ever so slightly, mistimed his run.

Liverpool then opened the scoring in the 29th minute, yet again, thanks to their Uruguayan number nine. A deflected shot from Diogo Jota fell right into the path of Nunez, who made no mistake as he fired the ball into the roof of the net - it's becoming some pre-season from the striker.

Five minutes later, 18-year-old Bobby Clark doubled the Reds' lead, with an expert finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Liverpool's Argentine number 10 was once more involved in the build up, as he found Mo Salah on the wing before the ball made it's way to Liverpool's youngster to score his first senior goal for the club.

Liverpool added a third almost instantly courtesy of Diogo Jota. Mohamed Salah secured his second assist in as many minutes with an inch-perfect ball to the forward in the box, who directed it calmly past Leicester's number one.

Just the three for Liverpool as the first-half came to a close. It was an excellent performance all round for Jurgen Klopp's team, but the clear stand-out was Alexis Mac Allister - the Argentine looked like he'd been playing in a Red kit all his life and pulled the strings for the first 45 minutes.

The second-half picked up exactly how the first left off, with Liverpool firmly in the driving seat - despite, once again, fielding a completely new XI (barring Caoimhin Kelleher) for the final 45 minutes.

A young midfield, dynamic and full of energy, alongside a secondary front three of Ben Doak, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz is frightening to say the least, and it led to Leicester barely touching the ball in the second-half. Domination.

In the 63rd minute, Liverpool's performance in the second-half paid off, as Joel Matip flicked a Szoboszlai corner into the path of Ben Doak, who bent his body at the last second and directed a fourth past Leicester's keeper - becoming the second youngster on the night to record his first senior goal.

With just 15 minutes to go, the Reds put the ball into the back of the net for the 6th time in the game, but unfortunately, the offside flag went up once again, chalking off what would have been Luis Diaz' second pre-season goal.

A truly dominant performance from Jurgen Klopp's team, led to a fantastic 4-0 victory in the club's third pre-season fixture of the 2023/24 campaign.
