Social media reacts to Dominik Szoboszlai's Gerrard-esque 'grenade' strike
It's not quite October, but the signing of the season debate might already be over.
In just a couple of months as a Liverpool player, a certain handsome Hungarian has managed to make his £60m price tag seem like loose change.
Dominik Szoboszlai has come in, bossed the dreaded lactate test, topped running charts and generally added drive and creativity to a midfield in desperate need of fresh legs.
Oh... and he scores screamers.
Following his beautifully hit effort against Aston Villa, the 22-year-old added another to his own personal September Goal of the Month competition with a 'grenade' – as Jurgen Klopp dubbed it –against Leicester on Wednesday night.
The Reds went a goal down in the Carabao Cup third round tie (because of course they did) but battled back in the second half, with Cody Gakpo levelling things before Szoboszlai unleashed from range on 70 minutes (not long after he came off the bench) to turn the game in the hosts favour.
Diogo Jota added a third late on with a superb flick, as Liverpool secured a fourth-round tie with Bournemouth next month.
Jurgen Klopp called Liverpool's latest comeback a 'top night' with 'top goals', but it was Szoboszlai's second-half display that stole the show.
Addressing his new star's wonderstrike, Klopp said: "I don't have to tell him to shoot, he knows that, he knows better than I that he has a pretty good skill. The next one, which goes slightly over, is another grenade.
"You can see that in Premier League games, everyone tries to block him, that's why he didn't come through yet – but if he comes through there's a good chance the ball could be in.
"A super goal."
Social media too was awash with praise for Liverpool's number eight, with many drawing comparisons between Szoboszlai and one former owner of that particular shirt number...
Even one-time Liverpool target Jude Bellingham stopped to take notice of the strike, with the Real Madrid star commenting on Szoboszlai's Instagram post.
Speaking after the game, Szoboszlai refused to call the goal his finest ever.
He said: "It was very special. I donāt know if it was the bestĀ goal, I scored one of my best in the national team and also in Salzburg. But [it was] one of the best for sure.
"Iām just doing my things, working hard and always ready to fight for the team, for the fans, for myself. And as I get many chances, I want to give back."
Just keep doing what you're doing, Dom.
