Sven-Goran Eriksson was Liverpool Legends manager on Saturday at Anfield as the Reds took on Ajax. Here’s how the fans greeted him.

Sven-Goran Eriksson got to taste his lifelong dream on Saturday as he led out a Liverpool side at Anfield. Of course, it wasn't quite the Reds' first-team - this was Liverpool Legends and they faced Ajax for the LFC Foundation.

Eriksson got involved after an announcement earlier this year that he has terminal pancreatic cancer. The former England boss likely has under a year left to live and received an outpour of support from the world of football.

And so the idea was put forward that he should get the chance to lead a Liverpool side out. Eriksson was a boyhood Red thanks to his father, and has talked about it as a disappointment in his career that he was never able to manage the club.

Well, here's the next best thing. The gesture was suggested on social media and Liverpool made it happen as Eriksson did indeed lead out Liverpool Legends against Ajax.

How Anfield greeted Sven-Goran Eriksson

Eriksson received a special standing ovation from the Anfield crowd, walking out of the tunnel accompanied by a mascot for the LFC Foundation. It was a fantastic moment and one you can view below:

You can see the emotion on the man as he took his place next to Steven Gerrard, one of his former England players. In fact, Gerrard was the only one involved who played under Eriksson competitively.

The two of them can be seen embracing as the lineups took their places for pre-match photos - it clearly meant a lot.

Eriksson got a little taste of his dream, then, as he sat in the Liverpool dugout. A wonderful gesture and one that the entire club fully embraced today.
