Liverpool legend set to be beaten out for Championship job

Robbie Fowler looks set to be beaten out for the Blackburn Rovers job as his wait to manage in England goes on.

Sky Sports have reported that former Birmingham City manager John Eustace is set to take over from Jon Dahl Tomasson at Rovers, as soon as the Norwegian has officially left the club.

Rovers have accepted the resignation of Tomasson after picking up just five points in the last 11 games - and had been evaluating potential candidates to assume the hot seat at Ewood Park.

According to the Express, Fowler was said to be in the picture to succeed Tomasson in the dugout, despite having never managed a club in England.

Fowler, who scored 183 goals in 369 games for Liverpool, has instead built up his managerial resume on the other side of world, enjoying successful stints in India, Thailand and Australia.

He most recently took charge of Saudi Arabian second division side Al-Qadsiah, a side that boasts a handful of former Premier League players including Joel Robles and Luciano Vietto.

However, Fowler decided to depart Qadsiah in December despite winning six of his eight games in charge, having played a vital part in their push for promotion which is still going strong.

After proving his worth abroad, Blackburn were reportedly tempted to give Fowler a way into the English game, offering a role previously held by fellow former Reds legend Kenny Dalglish.

However, that possibility now looks off the table, with Rovers opting for a proven Championship manager in Eustace.
