Ian Rush backing Liverpool to beat Inter Milan in Champions League

Liverpool legend Ian Rush is backing the Reds to beat Inter Milan in the Champions League when the two meet one another in the round of 16.

The Reds and the Nerazzuri both have famous connections with Europe's top competition and will meet in the first knockout round of this year's tournament.

It's a fixture that evokes memories of Steven Gerrard's strike in front of the Kop or Fernando Torres' spin and strike away from home, and hopefully the Reds will be able to create new good memories over the two legs against the Serie A side.

That in mind, then, former Liverpool forward Ian Rush is backing the Reds to do the business when the time comes.

Speaking to Calciomercato and quoted by Football Italia - the one-time Juventus forward said:

“Two great teams, two great histories, by the way, Liverpool are playing really well at the moment as a team.

“Playing an Italian team is always difficult to score, but Liverpool have a front three that will score goals. It will be a difficult game, but I can see Liverpool coming out on top.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Inter Milan are a good side but they are not the team they were when they last won the competition and they're probably not the side they were even last year when they had the likes of Romelu Lukaku leading the line.

That said, they still have quality and will pose a big threat to Liverpool, with us now at the stage of the competition where every game is a big one.

Rush is backing the Reds to get the job done, though, and we'll all be hoping he is right to be thinking that way.
