Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp featured on BBC's Mastermind - how many answers can YOU get?

A contestant on popular BBC quiz show Mastermind chose Jürgen Klopp’s reign as Liverpool manager for their specialist subject on Monday night’s edition of the long-running programme.

First broadcast in 1972, Mastermind has become a televisual fixture in the United Kingdom, in which contestants select a specialist subject for a first round before being quizzed on their general knowledge in the second round.

Famously, the participants are sat in a black chair with a spotlight on them, with questions being fired at them by the host over a two-minute timeframe.

This most recent edition featured a media consultant named Aaron Casanova, who elected Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp as their specialist subject.

Answers: 

1. Tottenham Hotspur - A far from memorable debut for Klopp, with Simon Mignolet called into action repeatedly to thwart Spurs.
2. Virgil van Dijk - Difficult to get this one wrong, as Liverpool’s current captain immediately cemented hero status in his first game for the club.
3. Mentality Monsters - A phrase seemingly etched into footballing history now, and even if it can come across the wrong way at times it absolutely sums up that Reds side.
4. 9-0 - A game which saw first Premier League goals for Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, and one of the brighter spots from a season that didn’t start so well.
5. Istanbul - The Reds returned to the site of their most famous European victory, albeit actually in a different stadium than where they had played in 2005.
6. Thomas Gronnemark - By far the hardest question, Gronnemark enjoyed a spell of five years working with the Reds when he left in 2023.
7. Mo Salah - An unforgettable day out for the travelling Kop, and a game which graced us with one of the best ‘aerial shots of supporters leaving a stadium’ ever on the hour mark.
8. Villarreal - A nice kind of symmetry. The only player who played in both the 2016 and 2022 fixtures for the Reds was James Milner.
9. Jayden Danns - The young striker went on to enjoy a few more first-team appearances at the back end of last season, scoring against Southampton in the FA Cup.
10. Seven - Unlikely to ever be repeated, the Reds had the honour of being both the earliest and latest club to win a Premier League title thanks to the season’s halt due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
11. Adam Lallana - One of the best memories of Klopp’s first season, a Premier League classic was clinched with Lallana’s looping effort before Christian Benteke was subsequently named years later as the player who knocked the manager’s glasses to the ground.
12. Saudi Arabia - Last summer was notable for how many clubs took advantage of the newfound Saudi spending spree, and the Reds were no different.
