'He should have waited!' - Former PL boss BLAMES Klopp decision for poor Reds form

Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew has questioned the timing of Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. 

The 56-year-old German stunned the football world with his shock revelation back in January, citing fatigue as the main reason behind his decision to step down. 

Liverpool at that stage were fighting for honours in FOUR competitions but recent results have seen them drop out of contention for the FA Cup while Premier League and Europa League aspirations are hanging by a thread. 

They have, however, secured glory in the Carabao Cup.

The Reds are winless in their last three matches - suffering a 2-2 draw in the league against Manchester United and two defeats to Atalanta and Crystal Palace. 

And former Palace boss Pardew has queried whether Klopp was right to make the announcement when he did, revealing that such decisions can have devastating impacts on players in the dressing room. 

Virgil van Dijk was one player who brought his own future into question following Klopp's announcement, while Mohamed Salah's future has also been shrouded in doubt in recent weeks.

Klopp should have waited 

“Klopp's decision, I just want to touch on that because as a manager I felt that was a strange move that he did, to announce it at that time,” he told The Final Word on talkSPORT. 

“I think in hindsight, whether he thinks that was the right thing when he gets to the end of the season, only he will be able to tell.

“Personally I think he should have waited till the end of the year and maybe told upstairs and left it at that.

“It is unsettling for the dressing room for sure because you have such faith in the manager, he's probably given you a bumper contract somewhere along the line and you have a real connection with him and he's leaving.

“It all gets a bit uneasy, you don't feel as confident about your position as a player when the manager is departing that that you love so much, so that is difficult.”
