Liverpool-linked manager's side DESTROY Jordan Henderson's Ajax

Jordan Henderson’s Ajax side were HUMILIATED yet again in the Eredivisie on Sunday, going down 6-0 to Feyenoord in De Klassieker.

Two goals each from Igor Paixao and Newcastle loanee Yankuba Mintah, and further strikes from David Hancko and Tottenham target Quinten Timber, saw the Rotterdam side run out convincing winners against their Amsterdam counterparts for the second time this season.

Back in September, the first Classic of the Dutch league season was halted with Feyenoord winning 3-0 after Ajax fans threw flares onto the pitch.

When the game resumed later in the week, behind closed doors, Feyenoord added another goal to make it 4-0.

It’s been a season to forget for Ajax, currently sitting sixth in the table with hopes fading fast for European football next season.

Henderson’s arrival has done little to alleviate the embarrassment around the Johan Cruyff Arena, with club legend Rafael van der Vaart slamming the former Liverpool captain after a 2-2 draw with Norwegians Bodo/ Glimt in February.

"They signed players with zero quality; you may have to sit this season out. They have brought in Jordan Henderson, who passes sideways and backwards all the time. That doesn't make anyone happy," he said on his television pundit duties

Signed from Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq during the winter transfer window, bringing a regrettable six-month spell in Saudi Arabia to an end, Henderson has only managed six Dutch league matches since.

And, in a damning indictment for the 33-year-old, he’s only been on the winning side in the Eredivisie once.

Henderson again sat out the fixture on Sunday with a muscle injury and Ajax were simply no match for the league’s second placed team.

Arne Slot, the Feyenoord manager, presides over the biggest scorers in the division, champions-elect PSV excluded. Feyenoord have rattled in 76 goals in 29 matches, losing only twice all season long.

The defending champions have been generally consistent but still no match for the runaway leaders from Eindhoven.

Slot on Liverpool radar

Nonetheless, Slot’s work has placed him on the radar for many of the continent’s top jobs, Liverpool included.

Back in January, when Jurgen Klopp’s departure was announced, the Feyenoord manager was asked whether he would be taking up the soon-to-be vacant position at Anfield.

“Next question,” he said, appearing to rule himself out of the running.

His Feyenoord team have proven to be formidable since his appointment in 2021, reaching the first-ever Europa Conference League final in 2022, while they were also victorious in the Eredivisie last season.

Slot is a two-time Dutch manager of the year and has been tipped to now go and take the next step in his career.

The Dutchman was heavily considered by Tottenham Hotspur last summer before they ended up moving for Ange Postecoglou.

One prominent Dutch voice, meanwhile, claimed last month that Slot is tailor-made for the job on offer at Liverpool.

“He has achieved something and has really shown in Europe that he has his own philosophy,” former Eredivisie striker Mario Bilate told RTV Rijnmond

“A step higher will not be a problem. It will mainly be a choice of which club he thinks suits him best. I think that’s Liverpool.”
