Liverpool join queue for in-demand Ederson

Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Teun Koopmeiners is no secret, with the Dutch midfielder on the Reds’ radar for at least a year. 

Links with Koopmeiners have intensified in recent weeks following the appointment of Arne Slot as new head coach at Anfield. 

Koopmeiners, 26, was one of Slot’s stars back in his AZ days, before making the move to join current club Atalanta in 2021. 

The 21-cap Netherlands international has taken his game to new heights in Bergamo, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A and winning the Europa League this season. 

Juventus are also known to be interested in Koopmeiners and, unfortunately for Liverpool, he has expressed a preference to remain in Serie A. 

He is under contract until 2027 but amid widespread interest in his services he is expected to generate a huge cash profit for Atalanta this summer. 

And now Tuttosport reports that Koopmeiners is ready to deliver an ‘assist’ of sorts as Juventus emerge as favourites to land him under new coach Thiago Motta. 

As Liverpool scouts have taken note of Koopmeiners throughout this season, it’s been reported that his midfield partner Ederson has also emerged as a player of interest for the Anfield side. 

Ederson emerges as Liverpool midfield target

The 24-year-old was a star of Atalanta’s Europa League campaign, excelling in the final against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen last week. 

His all-action display won him the plaudits of observers all around the world and his consistency across the season has earned him a place in the Brazil squad for the upcoming Copa America. 

As Koopmeiners leans towards Juve, Liverpool are now readying a bid for the former Corinthians man, according to reports in Italy, who is under contract until 2027. 

With the Reds requiring a solid defensive midfield player this summer, Ederson could well fit the bill. And the feeling around Turin is by moving towards the ex-Salernitana man, the Reds would allow Juve a clear run at Koopmeiners. 

Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are among the other teams mentioned in the chase for the tireless midfielder.
