Despite the fact that Liverpool moved SEVEN points clear at the top of the Premier League table, the sentiment after the game was more akin to a loss given the nature of Everton’s fortuitous escape.
Reds’ players and coaching staff were certainly in no mood to party with Curtis Jones, Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff all dismissed by Michael Oliver after the final whistle.
John Henry celebrates Bregman deal
But one key Liverpool figure who appeared blissfully unbothered by the entire situation was club owner John Henry.
The FSG frontman was pictured by wife Linda Pizzuti holding a cigar in a late-night Instagram post shortly after the Merseyside showdown.
It’s unlikely the celebratory cigar was anything to do with his English team’s 2-2 draw however. The Boston Red Sox, Henry’s other major sporting interest, have just signed high-profile baseball free agent Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract.
Like at Liverpool, Henry and FSG have come in for intense criticism from Red Sox supporters for their failures in the market. This signing, however, changes all that... for the Red Sox at least.
Bregman is a right-handed hitter who has ALREADY hit seven home runs at Boston’s Fenway Park with his previous team, the Houston Astros.
And so while Liverpool have got plenty of issues to contend with - a triple suspension looming and the contract situations for Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk - Henry’s focus for the time being is clearly elsewhere.
REVEALED: Liverpool's top 10 most valuable players
There have been reports that Henry and FSG might be ready to sell part of the club and if the latest statements from Salah’s Egyptian compatriot Mido are anything to go by then Henry might be joined at the top table soon by the record-breaking goalscorer.
