In their next run of games the Reds face Chelsea, RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Brighton twice, Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa and Southampton before facing Real Madrid and Manchester City in the same week.

However one former Liverpool player is optimistic about Liverpool's chances.

Pennant believes in Liverpool

Jermaine Pennant believes that Arne Slot's side are in the running for the Premier League title. Asked by talkSPORT host Olly Cink to predict the outcomes of Liverpool's next fixtures, the ex-winger stated that the Reds wouldn't lose any.

"To say they're [Liverpool] are not in the running is very naive or stupidity from other teams," said Pennant on talkSPORT. "People were saying are they going to be now that Jurgen Klopp's gone, how is Arne going to take over?

"Klopp left Liverpool in a fantastic position. He built a team for the next manager to come in and have a fair crack at the league. What's worked wonders is his style of plays, formation is not too much different to Klopp, the only different thing is Klopp was more chaotic."

Pennant praises Diaz and Gravenberch

Two standout performers so far this season have been Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz. Pennant believes that if Klopp knew what Gravenberch could do in the number six role, Liverpool could have been closer to achieving the title last season.

"If Klopp could see what Gravenberch could do in that role, I think Liverpool would have been challenging last season longer than they did," added Pennant.

When asked about Diaz's form so far this season Pennant said: "I think he basically put his scoring boots on! That's one thing that let him down massively and I think the fans were getting a little bid fed up.

"I think the confidence, started the season well and now every time he's in front of goal he now believes I can score."
