Jarell Quansah hails 'unbelievable' Liverpool teenage midfield sensation

Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah has been GLOWING in his praise for a fellow wonderkid who scored in one of Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies on Sunday.

The 21-year-old defender has been a regular feature in Arne Slot’s pre-season matches and will almost certainly feature in some capacity in the Reds’ opening Premier League fixture against Ipswich Town this coming weekend as he looks to build on a very promising 2023/24 campaign.

However, it’s a fellow Anfield youngster that has left Quansah the most impressed during pre-season.

Teenager Trey Nyoni has proved through eye-catching pre-season displays he certainly has the quality to be a part of Slot’s first-team plans this season, even scoring against Sevilla on Sunday at Anfield and immediately being congratulated by captain Virgil van Dijk.

'It was unbelievable'

Quansah was quick to heap on the plaudits as well. Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, he said: "I think he’s stepped up this pre-season and showed a lot of quality.

"I think because some of the players have been returning from international duty he’s been able to step up and really, really show his confidence, and you saw that today in the finish, it was unbelievable."

The Reds signed Nyoni from Leicester City in September of last year, and the England youth international was quickly given chances to train with the first-team under Jürgen Klopp. Nyoni went on to make his first team debut in February against Southampton, becoming Liverpool’s youngest ever FA Cup participant.

Liverpool miss Zubimendi

It’s been clear to see during pre-season that there would be no lacking in talent were Slot to make Nyoni a fully-fledged member of the first-team squad this year, especially given the new manager’s promise when it comes to youth development. 

Nyoni could have a big part to play given the Reds have lost out on their preferred No.6 midfield target with Martin Zubimendi opting to remain at Real Sociedad.
