Liverpool’s January transfer window was about as quiet as 9am Sunday morning down the Albert Dock.

Fans had hoped that maybe something, anything, could have been done to strengthen the depth that the Reds have.

Instead, the biggest thing of note was Manchester City being the team that got the transfers of Omar Marmoush and Vitor Reis over the line.

Marmoush in particular was a significant blow for Liverpool as he had been identified as part of the attack of the future alongside an extended Mo Salah.

But that won’t deter the management system at the club as the moving finger writes and, having writ, moves on. There are always other options and other deals to be made.

One player that Liverpool have been linked to significantly this season is Borussia Dortmund’s left-winger Jamie Gittens.

The 20-year old Englishman has turned heads over the past few seasons, making a notable number of appearances for Dortmund in his teenage years.

This peaked with 34 appearances in all competitions last season but Gittens was still piecing things together in his attacking output, managing a decent 10 goal involvements throughout the campaign.

But he has certainly taken an extra step this season so far already, grabbing 11 goals and five assists in 30 games across all competitions, including four Champions League goals. As a result, teams all across Europe have begun to vie for his signature.

And whilst it may seem difficult to pry him away from a team like Borussia Dortmund, a new route has emerged.

How can Liverpool sign Jamie Gittens?

“If Dortmund doesn’t reach the Champions League, I think they will have to sell [Gittens]” BILD’s Head of Football Christian Falk told CaughtOffside.

“Bayern are interested, though I’m not sure if they would be prepared to spend their money on him.” he continued, “If they manage to sell Tel – and don’t move for Nkunku – there’s a chance. Otherwise, it’ll be difficult!”

Dortmund currently sit ninth in the Bundesliga but only three points off the Champions League places at time of writing. With the league being as congested as it is, however, and the recent sacking of manager Nuri Sahin, they sit in a bit of turmoil that may be difficult to overcome.

As a result a clear path has been opened for Liverpool to make a run at Gittens. With Luis Diaz seemingly not wanting to renew his contract at the club, the Reds will need depth and dynamism all across the attacking line.

Gittens’s directness will be perfect for Arne Slot’s system. If they can get it over the line then teams all across Europe will dread facing Liverpool even more than they already do.
