Jamie Carragher's son has beaten a highly rated Liverpool star to an important recognition this month.

Little is known about the legendary Liverpool defender's son, James. But the 21-year-old is a promising young footballer who is looking to follow in his famous father's footsteps.

During his younger days, James was part of Liverpool's academy set-up but never made it to the U18s and ended up moving to Wigan Athletic, where he has been making his way through the ranks over the last few years.

This season, he has broken into the first team and has established himself as a key part of the team, earning a major award in the process.

Luke Chambers beaten to award by James Carragher

Alongside Carragher in the Wigan team is Liverpool's exciting Luke Chambers, who has been in great form after returning to the club where he spent the second half of last season on loan.

Chambers is now on a season long loan at Wigan and he's continuing to catch the eye.

So much so that he was nominated for the club's Player of the Month award for September.

However, it wasn't the Liverpool loanee who earned the major recognition which was voted on by the club's supporters.

Instead, it was Carragher who took the prize with his performances throughout the month, being recognised as the best at the club.

How is Luke Chambers getting on at Wigan and why is he 'incredible'?

Chambers is really highly rated by Wigan. He was described as ‘incredible’ by Wigan boss, Shaun Maloney, after his debut.

Clearly the sky is the limit for the exciting full-back and he definitely still has a long-term future at Liverpool.

This season he has started every league game for Wigan and has one goal and one assist during his nine appearances to date.
