Jamie Carragher believes the arrival of Federico Chiesa could see Mohamed Salah remain at Liverpool for the coming years.

Chiesa signed for the Reds in the final week of the summer transfer window for a fee of £12.5 million after the Italian was frozen out of Thiago Motta's squad at Juventus.

The 26 year-old will provide valuable cover for Salah as well as being an asset that can operate all across the attack.

Despite Salah entering his final year of his current Liverpool contract, the former Liverpool defender believes the signing of Chiesa will see Liverpool's number 11 remain at Anfield beyond the end of this season, with the Egyptian believed to have 'a lot of miles' still in him.

"I actually think if Chiesa plays, starts 15 games this season, and Mo Salah is playing a season of 35 to 40, I think Mo Salah what we saw today can still play for another two or three years for Liverpool, if he doesn’t have to play every single minute or every single game.

"I think the arrival of Chiesa is very important in terms of Salah as well. I still think there is a lot of miles in him," Carragher said on The Gary Neville Podcast.

There is no doubting Salah's fitness and that he has a few years left at the highest level, but the presence of Chiesa to ensure the Egyptian doesn't have to play every minute of every game could prove vital in maximising the 32 year-old's productivity as he enters his mid-30s.

Liverpool now have genuine quality to replace Salah, but not in regards to him departing Anfield, moreso when the Egypt international is rested or picks up a knock.

Chiesa was in attendance at Old Trafford

After officially becoming a Liverpool player on Thursday, Chiesa was in attendance at Old Trafford to watch his new teammates for the first time as they dismantled rivals Manchester United to extend Arne Slot's perfect record in the Premier League.

The Dutchman has overseen three Liverpool wins in their opening three games and is yet to see his side concede a goal, much to Slot's credit, with his side limiting chances being given to their opposition.

Following the conclusion of the upcoming international break, the Liverpool boss will be able to boast an even stronger attacking force with Chiesa set to be ready at the manager's disposal.
