According to reports, a trophy-winning Liverpool midfielder is set to return to training in the near future.

Arne Slot hasn't had too many injury problems to contend with in his reign as Liverpool manager so far.

The Reds' boss has not rotated his squad too much but Slot's methods seems to be working.

Liverpool have been able to field their strongest XI for the vast majority of their 10 games this season.

That will change with the injury Alisson picked up against Crystal Palace but on the other hand, Harvey Elliott is on the comeback trail and there's another very talented midfielder whos is about to make a return to first team action according to the latest reports.

When James McConnell is set to return to Liverpool training

James McConnell made his breakthrough with the Reds last season, being named on the bench for their Premier League opener against Chelsea last August and making sporadic appearances for the first-team throughout the first half of the season, including substitute appearances against Toulouse and Brentford as well as a start in the FA Cup against Norwich.

Then McConnell put in a fantastic display off the bench to aid in Liverpool’s victorious League Cup final this past February, where the then-teenager outshone opposition players such as the British transfer record holders Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

Now thanks to Liverpool academy journalist Lewis Bower, news has emerged that McConnell will soon be making a return to training in the coming weeks.

McConnell has enjoyed a good reputation since breaking into the first team with both coaches and teammates, with fellow graduate Lewis Koumas describing him as “a very special player and very good to play with” to Liverpool's official website.

Plus, McConnell’s imminent return is sure to aid head coach Arne Slot in terms of players to choose from, given that there are still question marks over just how much depth Liverpool really have in that holding midfield role.

Beyond the imperious Ryan Gravenberch, there is only the un-fancied Wataru Endo and the relatively untested Tyler Morton to pick from, and with the games coming thick and fast chances for McConnell could be forthcoming.

On the flip side, it might be that McConnell will be loaned out in January, similar to fellow League Cup winner Jayden Danns, or even sold outright like Bobby Clark was this past summer.
