With the international break comes many fears for fans, the main one being injuries to their club's star players.

Liverpool supporters will certainly be keeping their fingers crossed that no harm comes to any of Arne Slot's men following the positive start to the season. The hope is they all come back to Kirkby fit and ready to tackle the next set of games for the Reds.

However, one player has already had to withdraw from England duty, and there has since been another scare when an overseas star missed an important training session.

Alexis injury saga

Alexis Mac Allister has been a shining beacon of light for Liverpool since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer. The 25-year-old has reinvigorated the midfield’s style of play, joining the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in bringing an abundance of creativity and fluidity to the middle of the park.

Mac Allister flew back to South America on international duty, with Argentina due to play Chile and Colombia in World Cup qualifying games.

Fans have since read gut-wrenching reports that Liverpool's number 10 has suffered some sort of injury. Quoted by ESPN, Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni said that Alexis “didn't train because he was overloaded or had some discomfort. We'll wait and see how he responds.

“It doesn't change our way of playing much because we'll stay the same, but it's true that he gives us play, set pieces.”

Mac Allister is key to both club and country of course, as any fan would testify after seeing him heroically win the ball off Kobbie Mainoo to start the move which led to Mo Salah making it 3-0 against Manchester United.

Thankfully, the man himself seems to have delivered a more positive update by posting an Instagram photo of himself taking part in a training session. The caption translates as: “Working hard and as a team, as always. All set for tomorrow.”

Despite the injury reports, the Liverpool dynamo seems in good spirits ahead of Argentina’s opener and the pictures suggest that any problem he had earlier in the week was very minor.

Here's to Mac Allister producing two more good performances against Chile and Colombia, before returning to England fully fit for the Reds' clash with Nottingham Forest.
