Liverpool have been dealt another blow with it confirmed that Owen Beck will return to the club from his loan spell at Scottish Premiership side Dundee due to a groin injury.

Beck, 21, was enjoying a stellar season on loan in Scotland, where he became a key part of his side’s push for a top-six finish.

Last week the Welshman was absent from the Dundee team which faced Aberdeen, but at that stage it did not appear that the injury would rule him out for an extended period of time.

However, both Dundee and Liverpool will be reeling from this latest injury update for a player who has been with the Reds since under-13 level.

This season he has played 25 league games for the Dee, scoring twice and making four assists in a productive temporary spell.

Initially sent on a season-long loan, following unsuccessful stints at Famalicão in Portugal and Bolton Wanderers, Beck was recalled in January amid an ongoing injury crisis.

With Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas both absent, Beck was required in and around the first-team picture by manager Jurgen Klopp and even went on to make his Premier League debut.

The Wales under-21 international played seven minutes of the Premier League game against Bournemouth on January 21, with the Reds running out 4-0 winners.

He was also the bench for an FA Cup game against Norwich and the Carabao Cup semi-finals against Fulham.

Beck's productive loan spell temporarily halted

Beck was then returned to Dundee, where he has been a consistent first-team presence up to now.

“Owen is looking at a minimum of four to six weeks on the sidelines,” Dundee manager Tony Docherty told the Courier

“We have been monitoring and managing the situation with his groin and he’ll now go for a scan on it.

“With Liverpool being his parent club they have a big input into that and, of course, he’ll get the best of treatment.

“He will go down there for that, certainly for this period because he’s their player and they want to look at it themselves.”

It does not mean Beck’s season is over as Dundee are hopeful of getting him back for the run-in.
