Liverpool dealt MAJOR injury BLOW with THREE key players DOUBTS for Chelsea CLASH
It's good to be back? Liverpool return to Premier League action this weekend with a blockbuster showdown against Chelsea at Anfield.
The Reds come off the back of an important and hard-fought 1-0 win against Crystal Palace, but this will be the toughest test of them all.
Enzo Maresca’s team has started incredibly well with his side sitting in 4th place after seven games.
The Reds will need to be clinical and aggressive on Sunday if they want to secure a positive result.
However, it has been announced today that Arne Slot’s men will be without three players this weekend, with one being a crucial part of the first team.
Slot without important trio
In his pre-match press conference today, Slot commented on the injury issues which have plagued his team.
He stated, “We’ve had quite some issues after the international break. Let’s see how they are after training today”
This signalled some worrying signs. With Alisson already confirmed injured, the Reds couldn’t afford to have any other major issues.
But, this wasn’t to be the case. According to a report by the Liverpool Echo, Alexis Mac Allister missed the whole team training session today, and took part in a solo gym session instead as he tries to return to full fitness, meaning he is a major doubt.
Alexis was involved in one of Argentina’s international games during the latest break, where he started in his country's 6-0 win over Bolivia. He lasted 66 minutes before being subbed off.
He has been nursing a groin injury, and it seems that this has taken its toll on him recently.
Moreover, Kostas Tsimikas was absent from the session following a battle with illness. He was rested for Greece’s historic victory against England but played eight minutes in their win against the Republic of Ireland. But he hasn’t been able to fully recover with Andy Robertson expected to regain his place in the starting eleven.
Finally, Federico Chiesa was missing too. He picked up an unconfirmed injury last month and missed the last two games before the international break.
Fans would have hoped this would have been enough time to recover, but this doesn’t seem to be the case.
This is a devastating blow for the Reds who will need their strongest players to compete against a hungry Chelsea side eager to take all three points on Sunday.
