Liverpool in talks to sign Piero Hincapie in January after rejecting summer transfer

Piero Hincapie's agent has claimed that Liverpool rejected the chance to sign the Bayer Leverkusen defender in the summer transfer window.

Manuel Sierra, who also represents Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo, says the Reds were interested in his client but prioritized midfield reinforcements, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch joining the club this summer.

Speaking to Joaquin Saavedra from Fútbol Sin Casette, Sierra also confirmed that Liverpool - and a few other clubs - are 'talking' over a potential January deal for Hincapie, who is set to be valued at around €50 million. He said (quotes via Liverpool Echo): “Liverpool were interested in him, but at that time they chose to invest in the midfield. For January they are talking like other clubs, it will not be less than €50 million."

Liverpool fans are familiar with Sierra's name as the agent was at the centre of the Caicedo transfer saga this summer. When quizzed about the Ecuadorian midfielder's decision to snub a move to Anfield in favor of Stamford Bridge, Sierra reiterated that Caicedo preferred the Blues due to their long-standing interest.

He said: "The issue of not going to Liverpool instead of Chelsea was also very questioned, the offers were similar in every way. He ended up at Chelsea because he had given the word to Chelsea and he told them for quite some time.”

Sierra and Liverpool are believed to be on amicable terms despite Caicedo's transfer decision, which could be crucial in any potential deal for Hincapie. With Joel Matip's contract set to expire next summer, the Reds are certain to dip into the market for a central defender. Hincapie has over 100 senior appearances for club and country at the age of 21 and reportedly has a price tag of around €50 million, making him a trademark PSG transfer target.

Liverpool have also been linked with a January move for Andre Trindade, with Anfield Watch revealing earlier this week that the Brazilian midfielder is 'dreaming' of a move to Anfield.
