Liverpool are reportedly still interested in Dutch centre-back Perr Schuurs, although the Reds face competition from a fellow Premier League side.

According to Italian outlet Toro.it, the Reds are prepared to go to battle with Crystal Palace to secure the services of Schuurs, with Jurgen Klopp said to be on the lookout for another defensive option to work alongside Virgil van Dijk.

However, it is said that Torino are reluctant to sell the 23-year-old and will only accept an offer in the region of €40m (£34m) if they are to part ways with their star centre-back.

This proposed figure has reportedly led to a stall in negotiations between clubs, with a deal only likely if the price can be whittled down.

As things stand, Schuurs appears to be firmly in Torino's plans for the upcoming season, with the defender making his presence known during the Serie A club's pre-season campaign, even scoring in their first friendly against Feralpisalo.

This news follows reports that the Reds may not sign a new centre-back this summer after all, and could opt to wait for the right player instead of making a short-term fix.

Concerns over fitness issues in the squad, as well as the the lack of a natural left-footed defender, had led reports that suggested the Reds were looking to strengthen at the back, with Levi Colwill among those heavily linked.

And while according to The Athletic, the Reds are exploring a move for a left-sided centre-back this summer, but it is "not a guarantee" that one will be bought.

It seems, however, that investment will be put towards the signing of another midfielder, namely Romeo Lavia.

The 19-year-old Southampton star has been subject to serious interest from Liverpool. Having had an initial bid of £37m knocked back by Southampton, the Reds are set to return with an offer close to £45m.

The club are optimistic that a deal can be struck soon, despite competition from Chelsea.
