Liverpool 'in contact' to sign boyhood Reds fan from Eintracht Frankfurt
Liverpool are reportedly 'in contact' to sign Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Jesper Lindstrom, who is also attracting interest from a host of top European clubs.
According to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Juventus, Napoli and RB Leipzig are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old, who is valued at around €35-40m (£30-34m) by the Bundesliga club.
However, with a handful of clubs interested in signing Lindstrom, Frankfurt hope to start a bidding war for the player and net up to €55m (£47m).
The report claims that the Reds have "already been in contact" over the Denmark international, who can play as an attacking midfielder and a winger.
Lindstrom enhanced his reputation with a series of eye-catching performances for Frankfurt last season, as he notched up nine goals and four assists across all competitions.
When previously quizzed about a potential transfer, Lindstrom admitted he supported Liverpool as a kid, saying that it would be 'cool' to represent the club.
He said (quotes via the Echo): "I've always said I'm a Liverpool fan, so it could be cool to play for Liverpool at some point."
When pressed on Liverpool's reported interest, the 23-year-old suggested that he wouldn't dwell on transfer speculation, adding that his only priority is to get regular game time under his belt.
He said (quotes via BuliNews): "When I heard about it, I was interested to know if it was actually true. I am a Liverpool man after all. But there wasn't more to it. It's rumours, and rumours emerge really, really quickly. I can write something, someone else can write something and a third person can write something, and then it will be all over the media.
"I'm focusing on playing football and on doing what I can on the pitch to attract interest from clubs like these. It's all about playing football for me. My team will take care of all the other stuff."
Jorg Schmadtke has indicated that he could return to the Bundesliga for future Liverpool transfers, and Lindstorm's talent and versatility could certainly appeal to Liverpool.
However, this summer the Reds appear to be targeting a different profile. With Jordan Henderson joining Al Ettifaq and Fabinho's move to Al Ittihad likely to be confirmed this week, Jurgen Klopp and co are desperately short in terms of defensive midfield options.
On that front, the Romeo Lavia transfer saga seems to be approaching its climax, with Paul Joyce reporting that Liverpool are ready to launch a new bid that is nearer to the Saints' £50m valuation of the player.
The Belgian has already agreed personal terms with the Reds and reportedly prefers a move to Liverpool over Chelsea, with the Reds expected to get the deal over the line before the start of the Premier League season on 13 August.
