Liverpool are said to be very interested in signing Benfica's Darwin Nunez.

In today's Correio da Manha newspaper, as cited by Sport Witness, the Reds are reportedly one of the main contenders in the pursuit of Nunez.

Along with Liverpool, Premier League rivals Manchester United are also 'in a race' to sign the Uruguayan striker this summer.

The newspaper also states that Benfica ‘will make one of the biggest deals’ in their history when selling Nunez this upcoming transfer window.

The 22-year-old has a release clause of €150 million but, Portuguese media have been claiming that a fee of around €100 million would be suitable for Benfica.

Anfield Watch Verdict

This report seems to be an update on yesterday's news that the Reds 'will do everything' to sign Nunez this summer.

Lisbon outlet Correio da Manha seem very adamant that Liverpool are one of the main contenders to sign the 22-year-old despite no one else reporting it.

When speaking about Nunez after facing Benfica in the Champions League this season, Jurgen Klopp seemed very impressed with him.

"An extremely good looking boy eh?! He was calm for the finish. He is good, really good. If he stays healthy, he has a big career ahead of him," the German said, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

"Nunez is a really good striker. He is a top boy."

It's not surprising that Liverpool are looking at the Uruguayan as we seem to be interested in signing a number nine this summer, but the price tag makes no sense.

We have never paid anywhere near €100 million for a player who is as raw as Nunez.

Klopp could work wonders with Nunez but it would be a huge risk that Liverpool don't usually take.
